Signs of a leaky basement?

Before you enter a home, there are often signs that a basement is leaking or headed for trouble. The photo below is from a home showing. The home sits lower than the street, but little was done to divert the water runoff away from the foundation. The sidewalk and driveway are showing signs of normal settling exaggerated by the runoff problem.

Fortunately, this problem is early in development and no leaking has occurred. This homeowner still have time to correct the problem and save thousands of dollars in potential repairs. If in doubt, ask a basement expert for advice and a repair estimate, if needed.
